My drive 9JU purchased came with SD19 firmware. WinXP SR3 installed quickly and smoothly but on day 4, the drive started clicking loudly and timing out for minutes at a time. Eventully the drive would no longer spin up.
No way will I try to reinstall the system with this garbage drive. Cons: I seemed to have gotten an older drive shipped to me. As I understand Seagate has been shipping out drives with a newer firmware. Overall Review: This deal was too good to pass up, even with the reported problems. I did a little research and discovered the drive I received had an older firmware and that it was reported as causing problems for some. But I was able to find an updated firmware and easily updated my drive.
Pros: Hesitant to give any pros since this drive is junk. Cons: I took a calculated gamble with this drive despite the horrible reviews here. This is the drive with the latest firmware CC1J, but the firmware is irrelevant I believe. Almost half as many people hate this drive as love it. Not a stellar recommendation. But a took a gamble despite that and lost. Drive worked fine even after stressing it out under heavy continuous stress test for 3 days straight. Confident that it worked, I rotated it into production only to have it fail within the week with a loud clanking and auto power off on boot. Shame this drive was ever allowed off the line, and I really trusted Seagate as my preferred brand for years.
